In this petition, a group of enslaved people from Massachusetts plead their cause to the colonial governor Thomas Hutchinson, asserting that they share a common and natural right to be free with white citizens. This petition is incomplete but is likely an earlier draft of another petition written in 1777. (See the online presentation of the later petition.)
